Mens 1s vs Bedford M1

Mens 1s Match Report 15.10.23

Harleston welcomed Bedford to the Nest this week in a mid table clash between two teams looking to cement the start of their season. With an 11 degree shift in the weather towards the negative a cold but sunny Nest was the venue for the match.

A strong warm up and excellent team talk from coach Josh has magpies ready to fly.

The first quarter was full of little more than scrappy play from both team as they tried to make their mark on the game. Chris Leek making some good saves early on to keep magpies level. Some good link up play in the middle between captain Tom Ridley, Alex Weir-Simmons and Oakley Elsom made some chances for Magpies but nothing came of them.

The deadlock was finally broken when Will Donsworth played a strong pass from a long corner which was deflected by Myles King in the D to a waiting Dave Skinner who slotted the ball passed the on rushing keeper. 1-0 a Magpies at half time.

The 3rd quarter became a bit scrappy again and lead to several green cards. But Magpies kept pushing hard and eventually won a short corner. Myles dispatched a flick taking a slight deflection off the number one runner and magpies were 2-0 up.

In the 4th quarter Bedford tried but still played long ball hockey to try and get on the score sheet. Some cool play from Tom Dunnett, Ed Cross and Laurie Williams saw Magpies come through any tricky spells. At some point in the quarter Nick U-P was able to find Sam Oakley (who was having the 17 minutes of his life) and he linked with Myles and Oakley up top who, with style and an eye for goal calmly slotted the ball home from a tight angle. 3-0 Magpies.

Magpies were able to see the game out with some great game management with the team celebrating the first clean sheet of the year and a second win.

Man of the match was awarded to Chris Leek for a strong performance between the posts making several great saves in the process.

Next week Magpies travel to St Albans with a slightly different side missing some players but excited to build on today's excellent performance. #gomagpies
