Womens 4s vs Sudbury W2

Womens 4s Match Report

Magpies started with an early attack and were rewarded with a long corner. A counter attack from Sudbury saw them also given a long corner which was confidently defended. There followed some great attacking runs from Cara, Molly, Evie, Kate, Vanessa and Izzy W. A short corner followed taken by Mel H, which was slipped to Cara who opened the scoring. Sudbury fought back, but the defence of Mel V, Izzy P and Mel H were solid. Izzy P showing a turn of pace as she tracked back on several occasions to halt the Sudbury attack. The passing was of high quality and a string of passes from Mel V to Izzy W to Ellen up to Vanessa produced yet another attack with the forwards having several shots on goal. Any counter attacks from Sudbury were calmly cleared by the defence, with Abi in goal comfortably despatching any shots that came her way. Shortly before half time a high ball was intercepted by Ellen as it was cleared from the Sudbury D, she passed into Molly who scored.

The same quality of play continued into the second half, there were a number of shots at goal from the forwards and Sienna and Evie were unlucky not to add their names to the goal tally. Magpies won another short corner, which was struck out by Izzy P. Evie’s shot was saved. The final goal came after Molly carried the ball up to the D, slipped it to Izzy W who struck it in. The match was a pleasure to watch, Ellen playing at the bottom of the diamond and Sienna at the top were key in distribution and ensuring that they were well placed to receive and pass the ball on.
