Womens 4s vs Bury St Edmunds W3

Womens 4s Match Report 21.10.2023

Magpies 4s started the game unbeaten so far this year but knew that the opposition were going to be tough fielding a larger amount of experienced players. The game started quite evenly for the first 10 minutes until Bury were awarded a short corner which was cleared by Harriet but found a Magpies foot. The shot from the resulting short corner hit the post and after a foul a third consecutive short corner was awarded. The injection was slipped to the right and a hard strike hit the backboard. 1-0 to Bury. Mel H and Harriet intercepted some good runs down both the left to Darcey and right to Izzy W led to a short corner being awarded to Magpies. Injected by Flo, the shot was cleared by Bury whose counter attack was halted by Izzy Potter. Bury were quickly on the attack again and awarded a short corner. Thankfully the strike was lifted so the goal was disallowed. Magpies started moving the ball around midfield with Molly, Ellen, Izzy Parkin, Flo, Cara, Vanessa & Darcey all involved resulting in a short corner to Magpies. Izzy W injected to Izzy Parkin, slipped to Mel H, foul. A second short, injected by Izzy W caught a Bury runner off the mark too quickly. The third injection to Izzy Parkin who missed her strike. More even play in midfield with great defence from Izzy Potter, Mel H, Ellen & Harriet led to a Cara run resulting in another short corner for Magpies. Flo’s injection to Darcey who slipped to Cara found a Bury foot. Next injection to Izzy Parkin who hit a hard straight strike straight into the backboard. 1-1! Bury were quickly on the attack. A defensive mistake in the D led to them scoring their second goal. Magpies were determined to strike back and a reverse strike from Izzy W was saved. A bodycheck to Molly resulted in a green card to Bury and the game opening up. Magpies went into half-time 1-2 down and feeling that 1-1 would be much more representative of the first half.

The second half started with some great play linking Harriet, Izzy Potter, Ellen, Molly, Vanessa, Flo. The Bury GK made some great saves from Cara and Izzy W. The game started to open up with counter attacks by both teams. Harriet made a crucial clearance as the last defender. Bury were frustrated by Magpies determination resulting in a talking to by the umpire. Meg made a fantastic dive with Vanessa clearing to save a certain goal. Izzy Potter started a lovely string of passes to Izzy W to Flo to Darcey to Izzy Parkin. Foul by Bury led to a Magpies short. Flo injected to Izzy Parkin whose shot was cleared to unmarked. Izzy W who just couldn’t find the backboard. Bury’s play was well worked to the very end, resulting in another goal and 3-1 win.

Magpies team: Meg (GK), Mel H, Harriet, Izzy Potter, Ellen, Molly, Vanessa, Cara, Izzy W, Flo, Izzy Parkin, Darcey
