Womens 7s vs UEA W3

Magpies Womens 7s travelled to UEA for their first away game of the season, with just eleven players and anticipating a tough game against UEA 3s.

In the first few minutes of the first half, as UEA made several strong attacks and immediately tested our defence, Amber stepped up to the mark immediately with several great saves. From that point on, Magpies increased in confidence in all areas of the game, from cohesive teamwork between Katy, Vanessa, Caroline and Polly at the back, disrupting several of UEA's short corners, and creating space and passing well. Towards the end of the half, Magpies were building really well, with player of the match Beatrice driving through on the right and getting a good shot on goal, and coming close to scoring from a short corner. At half time it was all even at 0-0 with everything to play for.

From the second half, much as Magpies kept up with their game plan, UEA's squad of 16 allowed fresh players to continually stretch our hard-working players. Early in the second half, two UEA short corners were successfully converted to make it 2-0. Magpies rallied, with Caroline linking up well with Shirley and Beatrice, and Judith, Jenny and Emma, all very hard-pressed midfield continuing to win the ball back and looking to get forward. Towards the end of the game, Magpies were again looking more dominant, with two further short corners won, but unfortunately time ran out.

This was a fantastic effort from a newly formed team, and we look to build on this assertive performance.
