Magpies W7s travelled to Norwich City to play the late game under floodlights against City W6s. With three subs, Magpies knew that they could push hard and look to take all three points. Play was bright and purposeful with Magpies moving the ball accurately from defence to attack and the game was being played from end to end at a fast pace. Amber in goal made several crucial saves and the defence of Ali, Treacle and Caroline was resolute in their determination not to let City score. Midfield were working hard to both attack and defend - Jenny, Havana, Katy, Annabelle and Lily showing their pace and skill in tracking back when City were on the ball. A pressured passage of play by City eventually resulted in a goal.
Playing conditions were not easy as much of the first half continued in heavy, driving rain but nevertheless Magpies persisted and Evie, Vanessa, Beatrice and Tiggy, rotating as forwards, resulted in a goal for Vanessa. This lifted Magpies and they pushed for a second goal; Tiggy picked the ball up and drove into the circle, her shot hit the near post and the ball fortunately continued across the goal mouth into the goal!
With the advantage, Magpies looked to capitalise in the second half and, with further rotations of subs, pressed for that third goal to give them a cushion. However, City came out of the blocks at a fast and furious pace, testing Magpies under pressure and resulting in an equaliser. The final ten minutes of the game saw end to end play with both teams having to soak up pressure but also pushing for the winner. Magpies were very unlucky not to score from a couple of short corners in the final minutes of the game and City equally were unable to capitalise on chances.
Final score 2-2, a fantastic team effort with everyone playing their part.
