Womens 7s vs Dereham W4

Magpies Women's 7s travelled to Dereham this week in search of points from this game against third placed in the league, Dereham women's 4s. Captain, Katy Cole, was keen that the team should focus on timely and accurate passing which we had been working on in training.

During the first half, the game was evenly balanced, with both sides creating chances, but with Magpies defence having to work particularly hard to contain one or two very strong and quick Dereham players on the attack. Amber was on great form again, as several of these shots on goal were stopped from going in. Even as they won several short corners, we managed to keep them at bay. Caroline and Kathy at the back continued to work the ball out and instigate attacking play. Katy, Lily, Alison and Jenny, excellent in midfield, worked tirelessly in both efficiently getting back to defend and creating attacking play. Several exciting opportunities resulted when Beatrice then got on the ball, and Evie, Havana and Tiggy running through made Magpies look to have some chances. Eventually, though, into the final third of the first half, a Dereham short corner was deflected in to Magpies goal.

Magpies attacking play improved in the second half, we won a couple of short corners, Judith got some great passes through to the D, and Tiggy hit the post, so we were inches away. As Dereham continued to push forward, Holly helped secure the defensive line really well. However a well passed Dereham ball and clean shot got through our defences to make it 2-0. Magpies continued to improve their push into the Dereham half, and in the last minute won a short corner which again came close, but not before the final whistle.
