Womens 7s vs Loddon W2

Magpies 7s travelled to Langley School this week for their game against Loddon 2s. Having had a two week break due to games being called off, the conditions couldn’t have been more challenging as we arrived with our squad of eleven players to face not only the opposition, but torrential rain and high winds.

Magpies started confidently and purposefully, all the more impressive as many of our players were playing in positions unfamiliar to them. Our midfield contained the play very well, with Beatrice, Ciara, Judith and Alison creating many attacking chances for the team. Within the first ten minutes, Magpies were causing trouble in the Loddon half multiple times, and persistence paid off with a goal scored by Ciara in a goalmouth scramble. Our confidence and quality of passing improved leading to another opportunity, this time Tiggy getting the ball into the Loddon goal with a reverse stick shot making it 2-0. Our defenders Annie, Katy and Holly had worked together very well up to this point, with Amber clearing a couple of shots in from Loddon, but eventually a deflected ball allowed their attacker a shot and a goal just before halftime.

Despite the conditions, Magpies kept up their excellent pressure into the second half. Lily and Emma both picked up and ran well along the left and right from the mid, and eventually a neat pass from the right found player of the match, Judith, in the right place to score our third. Loddon came back strongly again with some accurate passing and scored a quick goal shortly afterwards. Magpies were determined to keep hold on to the game and fought to the end to maintain their first win of this season.

A fantastic effort and result by all players in grim conditions.
