Magpies 7s faced a tough game hosting promotion hopefuls Dragons 6s. Magpies knew they were in for a fight when a strong start by Dragons left them 1-0 down inside 5 minutes. Unfazed, the unflappable Magpies defence led by Vanessa (Mutimer) and Julie (Davy) started to push the ball up through the midfield led by Captain Katy (Cole). Some good link up play with fellow midfielders Jenny (Meyer) and Phoebe (Christopher) got the forwards motoring. A run down the right by Maisy (Woolward) created a 3 on 2 only for the inside pass to shoot behind the strong supporting runners of Holly (Archer) and Beatrice (Marsden). Magpies looked to be gaining in confidence only for some well worked passing play by Dragons to result in their second, five minutes before the break.
Magpies started the second half with their heads up. A much more even half saw both sides creating chances, with dogged defending by Ciara (Klinger) and Alice (Ling) and the ever busy Emma (Seggons) - Player of the Match - in midfield. Strong play on the right by Evie (Foster) and a powerful strike at goal from Judith (Masters) couldn’t chalk up the goal Magpies so deserved. Dragons continued to push forward and despite another strong display from Peg (Bridges) in the Magpies pads, Dragons snuffed the game out in the final quarter with their third goal.
Final score of 3-0 and some excellent playing all round.
