After our disappointing result last week, we were hoping to put that to one side and take on board the useful feedback we had after that game and put it into action this week.
From the start, it was a transformed Ladies 7s team on the pitch. Our shape improved, we covered all areas on the pitch and our passing of the ball really improved. Our chances came fairly early on in the game, but again, at first, didn’t convert to goals, but Magpies kept up the pressure and Tiggy slotted home a neat reverse stick shot into the goal. That seemed to be a signal for the confidence to build. Player of the match, Havana was instrumental in getting in the right place to receive and send the ball on, and create many opportunities for our other forwards, Lily, and Holly. Lily put in some great work and scored, followed by Beatrice running through the Norwich lines and taking a chance on goal which made it three at half time.
We were prepared for Norwich to come back hard in the second half, which they did straight away by breaking away and scoring a quick goal. Magpies kept their cool, and the pressure eased off, due to fantastic efforts and great control in the midfield from Jenny, Emma S, Judith and Katy, with Emma T dominating the back line in defence and Verity stepping up to make some vital saves. Further pressure from Magpies allowed Holly to seize her chance in the D with a superb hit high into the top corner of the goal. Norwich were not quite finished, and came back with another breakaway attack and claim their second, and final goal of the game.
A well deserved win for Magpies and happy 7s team!
