Womens 8s vs Norwich Dragons W8

Womens 8s v Norwich Dragons 03.02.2024

Our morning match at ‘Goals’ in Norwich was played on a fine, dry day in T shirts; it was almost warm. Dragons began the game and were awarded a short corner within minutes! However, young Megan Fisher, playing her debut in goal, took it in her stride and played brilliantly as did our defenders. Bethany Whipps, voted Player of the Match, ran out first whilst Gillian Stokes, and Daphne Beckett guarded the posts and Rachel Baynes stopped the forwards in their tracks. The Dragon’s forwards were strong and during the first half seemed to take control of the game; no sooner would play reach their circle than a determined player would send the ball flying back.

At half time, our knowledgeable timekeeper advised us to pass the ball earlier rather than sprint up the right wing to the end of the pitch and then try to pass the ball into the circle. However, we had some great moments during the second half. Ali Buck joined us and with Alison Priest tackling hard in the centre we took the play to Dragon’s half for a change. Bethany Whipps made some fast runs around Dragon’s defence and Zara Broadley had a shot at goal as did Lily Graziani. Soon, Dragons were awarded a few short corners and scored from the final one.

 Score: 0 - 1
