Womens 8s v Dereham W5s

The team huddled in the changing room whilst outside it was a chilly 4C, but the pitch wasn’t flooded despite being surrounded by floodwater. Hurrah! Whilst we were warming up, top of the league Dereham were waiting for the match to start. Within minutes of the push back, Dereham had a short corner but our excellent defenders July Davy (voted Player of the Match), Jose Tibbenham and Georgie Saunders cleared the ball easily. Soon after, Lily Graziana sprinted with the ball to Dereham’s circle and we had a series of short corners, yet Dereham’s defence were strong too. Peg Bridges played superbly throughout the match.

During halftime, Jose advised us to move around whilst waiting for the hit-out and not stand still. However, the second half began with poor Lily Graziani needing to leave the pitch with a finger injury, so the two wingers, Zara and Jo Meyer moved in. Peg really had her work cut out with multiple short and long corners, but Alison Priest and Julie Davy worked hard to clear the ball. Then, Zara had an asthma attack and Jo called a halt to the match whilst the umpire brought an inhaler. She left the field so now, down to nine players, we played even harder and Dereham were so close to scoring, but it didn’t happen due to our brilliant defence.

Score: 0 – 0
