Womens 7s vs North Norfolk W2

Magpies 7s travelled to the Norfolk coast at Sheringham for their game against North Norfolk 2s, a re-arranged match originally postponed due to freezing weather. Jane and Judith were jointly leading the team on the pitch this week and we were aiming to concentrate on our passing and running to improve our attacking opportunities.

As a whole the game was evenly balanced, with Magpies working on their passing and skills very well, but North Norfolk were quick to turn things around once they gained possession and create trouble in our half. Magpies defence were kept busy for large spells of the game, with some precarious moments, but with Jane dominating the centre back, Caroline and Annabel securing the left and right and Judith playing further back to secure the centre, most attacks were dealt with. Amber, deservedly Player of the Match, saved the game on several occasions, making a trio of saves in quick succession, and later ran out to make a brave save from a single player. As confidence grew, the movement up the pitch improved. Beatrice worked hard throughout the game with some impressive runs through the opposition, and Emma and Holly made a great contribution with their effort in midfield.

These efforts created some chances for Magpies, with forwards Lily, Tiggy and Maisie all getting into attacking positions and picking up the passes and running on. From these attacking chances, and two short corners won, one in each half, we felt we were closer to scoring, and disappointed not to secure a winning goal. In the final minutes, North Norfolk were on the attack again, but our defences held out to the end of the game.

Both teams frustrated by the scoreline, but Magpies pleased to come away with a point from this away game, and with a significant improvement in our passing play.
