The Women's 1s arrived at the club buzzing and ready for the fixture against Slough, the girls were full of positivity and confidence following a winning streak of four games on the trot. As the women headed out onto the pitch the weather took a turn for the worst, in what can only be described as a downpour!
However the women would not allow the horrendous weather to dampen their attitudes, we knew the pitch would be slower with all the rain and we adjusted our game accordingly. Magpies positioning and defence allowed Beth G to win the ball just in out half, an early ball through and down the wing to Emily created a 3v2. Emily slipped the ball into Hannah who calmly slotted the ball past the goalies right foot to take Magpies 1-0 up in the first 5 minutes.
The second quarter continued with little changing, both teams looked to attack knowing the next goal could be crucial. The score line remained 1-0 going into half time.
After a brief rest and coats on to try to warm up again, both teams came out knowing the game could go either way. Shortly into the third quarter Anna C played a lovely ball through from the back into Hannah who coolly rounded her player, sent the ball down to the base line; where it was played into Beth G to score a lovely team goal. Magpies now 2-0 up and still working tirelessly, unfortunately Slough responded shortly after taking the score back to just a one goal difference.
In the final quarter became quite scrappy with both teams soaked through and cold. Neither team could find the goal and the final whistle blew on a 2-1 score line. Meaning the women came away from the game with their 5th consecutive win.
Next week the 1s travel away to Southgate at 3.30pm. The team are in a good position to retain their position in Division 1 South for another season, and they hope to seal it with another victory at the weekend.
