Magpies Mens 2's went to Wilberforce Road looking to bounce back from a 6-5 loss against UEA the week before. The game started with both sides setting up defensively sound, passing it across their back lines with very little pressure on the ball. Cambridge City had a few short corners where no positive result was apparent. About 20 minutes in, a smart short corner routine resulted in a blatant foot on the line by Flatman. 2 strokes in as many weeks for the headband wearing half-back. A ripped top-bins stroke by the City forward nearly broke the net as it went past diving keeper Moss. A second goal shortly followed by the fleet footed City forward who danced around the ball to push it beyond the Magpies keeper. Half time 2-0 City, and magpies thought they were hard done by.
The second half began, and with the 2-0 lead in the bag, City played very defensively offering very little unless on the counter. A smart play considering the game situation. 2 more goals for City came with Magpies pushing for their own goal, one of which was a classy deflection at the back post. 4 goals for the City forward. Means got a scrappy goal back for the 2nd team, continuing his record of scoring in every game he's played in for Magpies 2's, let's see if he can carry it on against Dereham 1's next week.
POTM Josh Means.
