Harleston Magpies Men's 2s made the trip down to North London to play Old Loughtonians in a bottom of the table super Saturday clash.
With the fresh legs of Sam Oakley making a return to the mighty 2s, Magpies got off to an encouraging start. After withstanding some pressure from the home side Magpies put some fluid play together between Ben Brand and Sam Oakley to create a glorious chance for the poacher Josh Means to volley it narrowly wide at the back post. Shortly after this, the game became scrappy with opposition going off the pitch after cards and players doing their best football impressions rolling about to lead to Magpies having a player advantage. With some valiant defending from CB partnership of Charlie Blandy and Dickon Taylor Magpies went into half time at 0-0.
With a first point on the cards Magpies men's 2s do what they do best in giving away a penalty flick to the opposition shortly after the break. Nick Moss after conceding 5/5 in the season so far moved gracefully to the correct side at last for it still to go in unfortunately for Magpies. After this Magpies didn't let their heads drop and began playing more intricate passing creating sustained attacks as the half went on. With some courageous play Simon Hipwell managed to go past two players even though he was playing on his knees and not his feet at the time. This inspiring the rest of the team led to a great ball in to the back post. Josh Means after watching the earlier diving and rolling about from the opposition mistakenly changed sport and buried it into the goal with his foot. However, this did not discourage Magpies and in the closing stages of the match up stepped Ben Brand with a screamer on his mind nestled it past the keeper into the bottom corner to give Magpies a much needed and deserved point to start their climb up the table.
