Magpies Ladies 7s travelled to Watton on a milder Saturday morning for our game against Watton 2s.
Watton were organised and aggressive in their play from the start. They were quick to intercept our passes and strong on the attack. For most of the first half, the game was played in our half, and our defenders immediately had to become organised and focussed. Although the general direction of the game was toward our goal, our midfield did succeed in getting the ball further up the field where our forward line of Tiggy, Lily, Evie, Judith and Holly created some chances and won a short corner. We held Watton at 0-0 by half-time, and felt we could begin to match Watton and be more assertive going forward.
In the second half, Magpies increased their share of possession and frustrated Watton as Vanessa, Caroline, Annie and Kathy continued to hold the fort at the back. Goalie Amber also comfortably made some significant saves and Magpies increased the pressure. Emma, Jenny, Katy and Beatrice continued to keep and retain possession in the midfield as our chances going forward increased. With just a few minutes remaining in the game, a short corner decision went against us, and then we lost two defenders who unfortunately ran prematurely and thus the remaining two defenders could only do their best to keep the ball out of our goal but it was not to be. In the closing minutes, Magpies rallied well and looked dangerous in attack, winning another short corner, but eventually the final whistle blew to leave it at 1-0 to Watton.
We were very disappointed to lose this in the final minutes, but another solid performance by the team.
