The Women's 7s travelled to Watton for their game against top of the league Herlings. We were more confident following last week’s win, but also knew it would be a tough game.
Herlings scored early into the first half with their first of five slick, practised and well executed goals. Much as we knew the style of play from this team, their ability to score once they got into space was all too apparent during the game. However, far from this match being a Magpies 7s side on the defensive throughout the game, our team showed some of their best attacking play this season. Lily made a big impact winning the ball from midfield and leaving the opposition behind once she ran up the pitch. Evie, Tiggy and Holly all had really promising chances in the D and troubled Herlings’ defence. Goals did not materialise, unfortunately, but the attacks continued relentlessly right up to the last minute.
Much of this was supported by fantastic efforts from Jenny, Beatrice, Emma and Ciara in midfield, and Caroline, Vanessa and Gillian at the back. Herlings’ strength in attacking our goal wasn’t always successful either. Player of the match, Verity made some outstanding and brave saves from several strong and determined shots on goal.
We lost to a strong team, but really made big improvements on our attacking, passing and keeping possession.
