On Saturday 21st January, Magpies 1st played Canterbury at home. It was an icy, cold day and thanks to the supporters and parents who swept the pitch, meant the match could go ahead.
The girls had a very strong first quarter, going 1-0 up, with impressive teamwork and skills. Unfortunately Canterbury scored in the 2nd quarter levelling the score to 1-1 and again in the 3rd quarter. But despite this, the Magpies put up a strong fight, dominating the match and creating lots of chances in the attacking D, with player of the match awarded to Beth Gardens for all the opportunities and chances she created in the D.
Whilst it was a disappointing result, it was a great start to the second half of season, showing lots of promise for the next couple of matches and that we can easily compete with any team in the league.
