Harleston Magpies faced a challenging away match against Banbury in the Midlands National League. Unfortunately, the travelling squad’s spirits were dampened by a notoriously difficult car quiz, which they found too hard to tackle.
The match began with a swift setback for Harleston as Banbury capitalised on an early opportunity, scoring from the back post in the first quarter. Despite this early blow, Magpies responded with determination, pushing forward to create several scoring chances. Andrew Johnson came close with a rolling shot, while both Oakley and Ben Brand found themselves in promising 1v1 situations, though none could find the back of the net.
One of the standout moments came from Chris P, whose impressive effort was met with an unbelievable save from the Banbury goalkeeper, preserving the home side’s lead.
As the match progressed, Oakley and Hugo received simultaneous green cards, temporarily reducing Harleston’s numbers on the pitch. Despite this setback, Magpies continued to press hard for an equaliser. However, in the final quarter, Banbury struck again, extending their lead. Despite a late surge and a concerted effort from Harleston, they were unable to break through the Banbury defence.
Looking ahead, Magpies will regroup and prepare for their next challenge as they anticipate a home match against St Albans in two weeks time.
