Magpies Women's 1s travelled to Guildford in a hope to build on their win against Sevenoaks before the half term break.
The first half was very erratic from both teams and Magpies struggled to keep the ball which invited the pressure onto them. The Magpies defence stood strong and tried the minimise Guildford’s goal scoring chances.
The second quarter was very much the same, Magpies tried to build and create chances themselves. Guildford also continued to put Magpies under pressure which were generally absorbed by Magpies pressure. Guildford were first to score with a very well executed short corner deflection.
The second half Magpies knew they were not out of the game and started playing the ball around the pitch more and switching the play. Their possession of the ball increased and started to put pressure on Guildford. Guildford still managed to create chances and threaten Magpies goal. This was rewarded for them with another goal via a short corner.
In the final quarter Magpies had nothing to lose and knew that if the next goal went their way the game would open up and Guildford would start feeling the pressure. The team pressed high, aggressive and as a unit which was rewarded with the Guildford defence starting to make mistakes. Magpies dominated the last quarter and good goal scoring chances were being created, however Magpies just couldn’t convert them. Against the run of play Guildford converted a third corner low in the bottom corner.
Magpies were disappointed with the result, but will learn from this and apply it to next week’s game at home to Slough where they will aim to get back to winning ways.
