A youthful Magpies Women's 2nd XI travelled to Ipswich for the opening game of the 2024/35 season in the East Premier League.
The game started at a high tempo with debutants, Mia, Krystal, Georgina, Charlotte and Siena quickly adjusting to the pace and physicality of the game. The first half was an even contest with both teams having multiple circle entries. But with the defensive units being well organised, attempts on goal were limited. With the temperature finally dropping the tempo of the game remained high at the start of the second half. The forward line of Krystal, Grace, Lexi and Mia utilised their pace and skills to trouble the Ipswich back line. This saw the ball fly past the back post on two occasions narrowly missing and preventing Magpies from taking the lead. Ipswich in response increased the pressure on Magpies resulting in a run of defensive penalty corners. With some outstanding saves from Georgina in goal, supported by Kira and Debbie clearing any danger near the posts, the score remained 0-0.
The game ended with Magpies securing their first point of the season with an impressive team performance which they will look to build on next week as they face Cambridge City 3s at home. Thank you to Nigel for managing the bench this week and to the travelling spectators for their support from the side lines.
