The first game of the season was an away trip to UEA 1’s, the sun was shinning with several young players making their 4’s debut.
Magpies were very quick out of the blocks, passing the ball around with confidence, resulting in a succession of short corners, but they were unable to capitalise with Angie going mighty close several times. However UEA grew into the game and started putting pressure on the Magpies defence getting themselves several short corners, but the defence steadfastly kept them out. The next attack from UEA lead to a surprising decision to award a flick, which was duly dispatched to give them a 1-0 lead. Magpies were not deterred and played some great attacking hockey resulting yet another near miss. HT 1-0
The second half was much of the same with end to end hockey, with both teams showing some great passing and defending. UEA had several corners but did not look like scoring. A last minute Magpies attack led to yet another short corner and another shot flashing past the post.
The final score remained 1-0 but it was an excellent performance for a new team, with great debuts from Jess, Sophie and Lexi.
