For Magpies 7, a home game always brings out the best in all the players and Saturday’s game against Felixstowe was no exception. With two good wins un
der their belt, there was definitely an atmosphere of confidence as the Squad arrived on the pitch. This week Magpies welcomed newcomer Riley for his first appearance with the team. The game began with a number of strong attacks from the Magpies forwards with some excellent passing of the ball and a well structured, tight formation for defending and attacking from all the team. Only the occasional long hit gave Felixstowe the chance to move out of their own half and that, coupled with some good goalkeeping, was denying Magpies any chance of an opening goal. Eventually, the persistent peppering of the Felixstowe goal led to the opener. A number of shots on goal gave Noah the opportunity to scoop the ball home past a stranded keeper.
A change of ends did not see Magpies press home their advantage. On one occasion they allowed Felixstowe to find a very high forward and it was only the speed of defender Alistair and his well timed tackle that prevented any hit on goal. Noah in goal also made a first class save when again Felixstowe broke away from a Magpies defence. However, just before the end, two very well taken goals from Noah and Ollie sealed the win and gave Magpies their third win and a 50% success rate in a men’s league as a new team and at a new level.
Our thanks to James, David and Richard for their expertise on the pitch. To Myles and Rae for their help and support on the bench and to the Umpires who made the game enjoyable to watch and to play. Thank you to the refreshment parents and to the hardy, well seasoned parents who are always there to cheer on and offer their advice from the sidelines!
