A lovely Suffolk evening for the first time in a number of weeks saw Magpies 7 take to the Felixstowe pitch with confidence and a willingness to meet any challenge put forward by the home team. So far, February had brought them three good wins in the first three Saturdays so there was naturally a quiet determination to make it four out of four.
The first half was fairly even everywhere except in the Harleston defending circle. Here, Magpies defence worked tirelessly to keep a clean sheet so much so that there was nothing left for goalkeeper Noah to do. In fact, he did nothing throughout the game ….. but he did it very well! The defenders are now part of many of the attacks especially the right and left defenders and they do it in the knowledge they have the speed and the skills to re-join the central defenders when needed.
There were a number of well worked attacks by Magpies’ forwards, but none translated into a single goal until a strong move down the right wing, a well-paced ball across the circle gave Ollie the opportunity on the far post to sweep the ball into the back of the net past a stranded keeper.
The second half saw Magpies gain in strength and they dominated the Felixstowe circle. Three good goals gave the team a convincing win. Noah was the first to score from a deflection; Sam then followed as a result of some tricky stickwork and passing; and finally, David beat two or three defenders and from the top of the circle, struck the ball hard and low past a very demoralised keeper and defenders.
So, the win count was four Saturdays out of four Saturdays ….. Probably the best consistent result ever produced by the team. Excellent progress from all the players. A team well worth watching!
