Womens 8s vs Watton W3

Women's 8s Match Report 05.10.24

The Women's 8s team travelled to Watton on a lovely, sunny morning. Our match began and Watton swiftly took the play to our half of the pitch, but Rachel Baynes, Daphne Beckett and Sarah Denny made short work of sending the ball flying back up to Watton’s half. However, one of Watton’s forwards took advantage of a gap in our defence and scored. We upped our game and soon young Becky Holledge (voted Player of the Match) took a great pass from Shirley McAllen in Watton’s circle and scored. The match progressed with superb passing by Rosie Baynes to our forwards and Amelia Stott sprinted past Watton’s defenders and smashed the ball home.  We were delighted and soon had good strong passes into Watton’s circle when Amelia Stott scored again! Next, she raced past the forwards and scored a hat-trick.

At half time, Anouska Stott asked us to run into a space to make passing easier and to just hold onto the ball a little bit longer. We were clearly all enjoying the game, but Watton made us work hard for the ball. At one point, every single player was in the Watton half of the pitch. We were awarded a couple of short corners, but their defenders stopped our strikes at goal. Soon, Shirley McAllen struck the ball into the Watton circle whereupon Joanna Meyer, on the left post, passed it to Becky Holledge who scored. When play began again, Lily Denny made a hard tackle, causing the ball to fly up and hit her forehead; she left the pitch and needed an icepack. Then, Becky Holledge scored a hat-trick…a perfect end to a great match.

Score: 6 - 1
