After a two-week gap, we finally had a match at Langley School against Loddon. The weather was strange in that it was murky with no wind but that was perfect for hockey. Loddon had the push-back and passed the ball around us with ease. Some strong tackles by Alison Priest kept the game flowing and good hit-outs by Tolly to the forwards meant that play was even. However, Loddon found a gap in our defence and scored. Soon after, they were awarded two short corners and scored from each of these. Yet, the ball found Tilly Collins who raced to Loddon’s circle and scored a cracking goal just before half-time.
At half-time, Tolly asked young Lilly Denny to run out first for the short corners, because she is quick. So, the second half began with a strong push-back and we tried hard to regain control of the game. Many Loddon players remained un-marked, and they could again pass around us with ease and took full advantage of this. They still had short corners but didn’t score; well done Lilly! Peg Bridges worked hard in goal and did a flying save, taking out a Loddon forward. Despite this, Loddon scored three times during the second half.
