Womens 8s vs UEA W5

After two weeks of conceded matches (not us) one would expect us to be a little rusty as a team, but nothing could be further from the truth. Within minutes of the whistle, we were awarded a short corner. Shirley McAllen hit the ball, and Jasmine Christopher scored our first goal. Our next goal came from a short corner and was smashed in by Shirley McAllen from the top of the circle. Play continued within UEA’s half and their defenders worked hard yet a deflected ball from a UEA stick towards the goal was sent home by Annabelle Barkway. UEA were awarded a short corner, soon after, and they all cheered which was great to hear; defenders Sarah Denny, Phoebe Garrard, Daphne Beckett and especially goalkeeper, Peg Bridges, kept the score at nil. Next, we had a short corner which Shirley McAllen struck from the top of the circle, and we all watched it roll in! Our last short corner of the half was received and pinged around to Amelie Lark on the right who crossed it Alice Baynes on the left who scored.

During half time, Tristan Baynes who helped with subbing and encouragement, praised our achievement so far and advised us to keep getting stuck in. So, the second half began with more fast running, good tackles and reasonably even play. Annabelle Barkway seized her chance at the top of UEA’s circle and smashed the ball home. She was on a roll when after a sprint through the centre of the pitch, she scored again! Soon after, young Lilly Denny sprinted up the pitch in time to take a hard shot from Annabelle and deflect it into the goal. Soon, we were awarded a short corner which was hit by Sarah Denny to Alice Baynes who scored. Next, Annabelle Barkway scored her fifth goal from the left post of UEA’s goal. Our last goal came from a short corner where Amelie Lark passed the ball to Jasmine Christopher who neatly pushed it home. A fantastic game and score with thanks to UEA for not giving up.
