Harleston Magpies 2’s welcomed Cambridge University 1’s for their first home fixture of the season in what proved to be a spirited and hard-fought contest.
The opening quarter saw both sides creating opportunities in a tightly contested battle, with neither team able to break the deadlock. However, the tide began to turn in the second quarter as Cambridge University found their rhythm. Relentless attacking play and clinical finishing saw the away side take control, scoring three goals before the half-time whistle across the second and third quarter.
Despite the scoreline, Magpies remained positive and resilient throughout the second half. The team showed great character and continued to work hard across the pitch. Their perseverance paid off in the final quarter with a well-worked goal, the result of some sharp attacking play and excellent teamwork.
Though the match ended in defeat, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance.
The Magpies will look to build on this and come back stronger next week.
