After last week’s defeat, Magpies wanted to bounce back with a result at fellow struggling team Nottingham Trent University. The game began at a steady pace, with both sides showing strong defensive organisation and sharing possession evenly throughout the opening ten minutes. Nottingham Trent were the first to break the deadlock with a scrappy goal. However, Magpies responded quickly and positively, pushing higher up the pitch and soon found their equaliser through a superb counter attack, with a backhand volley at the far post from Krystal Bishop to finish off a well worked move to make it 1-1.
Following the equaliser, Magpies grew in confidence and began to dominate possession, spending long periods in Trent’s half and creating several promising opportunities. However, against the run of play, Trent regained the lead after a defensive pass was intercepted, leaving their forward through on goal for a one-on-one finish that restored their advantage. Half Time: 2-1
After a positive team talk, Magpies came out with renewed energy in the second half, pressing for an equaliser. Their attacking intent earned them a couple of short corners early in the third quarter, but they were unable to convert. Trent then won a short corner of their own and extended their lead to 3–1 with a well-struck shot. Minutes later, a swift counter-attack from Trent added a fourth goal, putting them firmly in control at 4–1.
Despite the setback, Magpies continued to show determination and composure, moving the ball confidently through midfield and maintaining pressure with good penetrating passes. Their persistence paid off in the final quarter when they were awarded a penalty flick, coolly converted by Caris Gregory to reduce the deficit.
Magpies continued to push forward until the final whistle, but Trent’s defence held strong. It was an encouraging performance from Magpies, who showed resilience, teamwork, and plenty of attacking intent despite the result.
Final score: Nottingham Trent 4 – 2 Harleston Magpies
