Harleston Magpies Men’s 1st XI faced local rivals Norwich City Men’s 1st XI in an exciting derby, with Norwich City taking the win 3-0 in front of their home crowd.
The Magpies made a solid start to the game, creating some early pressure. Ben Brand came close to putting Harleston ahead with a fantastic shot at goal, but it just went wide. The team played some great hockey, pressing high and looking dangerous, and their defensive press was proving difficult for Norwich City to break.
However, Norwich City managed to make the breakthrough early in the second quarter. After a well-worked break and some great passing in the circle, they opened the scoring with a 1-0 lead. Harleston responded well, with goalkeeper John Livings making some crucial saves to keep them in the game.
Just before halftime, Norwich City launched another counterattack, and a penalty flick was awarded. The home side converted, doubling their lead to 2-0 going into the break.
The second half saw end-to-end action, with both teams creating chances. Norwich City's goalkeeper was in excellent form, making key saves to deny the Magpies any hope of a comeback. Despite some great play from Harleston, they were unable to find the back of the net.
Norwich City sealed the win in the final moments, breaking away again and earning another penalty flick after a one-on-one with Livings. They converted, making it 3-0.
Despite the result, Harleston Magpies’ goalkeeper John Livings was a standout performer, making several fantastic saves and earning Player of the Match for his exceptional goalkeeping. While the Magpies were unable to secure a result, they showed plenty of positive moments in their play.
