The men’s 2s travelled away to play Cambridge City 2s on a sunny Saturday afternoon. After last week’s win Magpies started with confidence. Passionate pressing eventually led to a breakthrough for Magpies. Fluid passing between the Hipwell brothers, opened up space for Geoff to score midway through the half. Moments later another piece of fine collective pressing led to a short corner. No nonsense Bedwell couldn't of hit the ball any better and buried it into the bottom corner to lead Magpies into a 2-0 lead. However, minutes later a lapse in concentration lead to a goal for Cambridge.
A refreshed Magpies came out of the blocks in the second half, working hard to press as a team. Soon after Magpies were rewarded when Geoff decided to swap the hockey stick for a golfing wedge and cutely landed the hockey ball in the net of the Cambridge goal. Magpies now leading 3-1 continued to control the game for next 20 minutes. However, soft cards for both teams and tiring Magpies led to a tense end for the match. Cambridge made the most of their extra substitute and scored a goal to make it 3-2 with 5 minutes remaining. Through, valiant team defending Magpies ended victorious making it 2 wins from 2.
End result 3-2 win for Magpies.
