Womens 4s vs East Coast W1

28.09.24 Womens 4s Match Report

We faced a strong and experienced team on Saturday.

Early in the game we were down to 11 players through injury but worked hard to contain them in the first half. East Coast scored early in the game from a well taken PC, GK Caitlin made a great first save but was beaten on the follow up. Evie worked really hard to contain numerous attacks down their left with Minnie and Kate providing support. Harriet used her great hit to transfer the ball and to link up with Lexi to try and get the ball up to our forwards but East coast were successful in turning the ball over to attack us again. East Coast went 2-0 up, the ball hit Mel’s foot and the umpire played the advantage for them to convert, “play to the whistle” came to mind! Magpies conceded a penalty after Mel fell on a player in front of goal that again was well taken and Caitlin had no chance.

Second half Magpies worked hard to play good hockey, Izzy and Vanessa closed down the gaps in the middle but we struggled to get the ball up to Angie even so when she got the ball coming deep she still managed to carve out some opportunities in the D and went close a couple of times. A counter attack caught Magpies napping and the final PC converted from a well taken drag flick. Magpies managed to defend several PC awards to keep the score at 0-5.

A fair result against a good team and lots to work on in training but all players should be proud of the effort they put in.

Thanks to Easy Coast for a great game and our busy umpires Justin and Jose.

This week Dragons 3s and looking forward to a different score line.
