This week saw the womens fourth team travel to the North of the County to take on North Norfolk who were just above Magpie 4’s in the league. The weather was overcast with a moderate breeze coming off the nearby sea, yet again the faithful support was in place on the side lines with an air of positivity with a slightly altered line up in the squad.
From the outset their was an immediate control of the game from magpies, which saw North Norfolk having to defend many well built attacks from Magpies. The game began to become more even with North Norfolk building some attacks from good possession and quick runners, on 20 minutes they took the lead from a close range shot which had divided both defence and keeper alike.
This goal did not unbalance Magpies who continued to maintain the upper hand in possession with their short and long range passing, this enabled Magpies to gain an equalising goal on 29 minutes from Lexi Toulson who calmy slotted the ball past the home keeper.
From the half time team talk by Mel and Vanessa, Magpies began the second half strong and continued with their fast accurate passing, which was clearly troubling North Norfolk and as the second half progressed North Norfolk began to play much more long balls to elevate the building pressure. With Magpies control and pressure building, on 49 minutes Rachael Clifford scored a strong goal to put Magpies a deserved 2-1 up.
The game was being managed well by Magpies, with strong defending of the North Norfolk long ball and building quick breaks with accurate passing to create good chances. On 65 minutes Angie Wheelhouse scored with a typical strong shot from the edge of the D to give Magpies the spoils from the day. The final score was 3-1 to Magpies and well deserved, with the away support very impressed by the determination and effort given by the ladies against a well drilled North Norfolk team.
