As the start of the season progresses, Magpies Women's 7s continue to show up with determination every week. This sunny, early morning game was no different, as the game got off to a strong start from both teams with Watton breaking through, calling for skilful defensive play from Magpies. Our defenders Annie Lancaster, Ciara Klinger, Bethany Whipps and a debut game from Katie Devereux, worked superbly together, making crucial tackles to try and clear the ball away from the goal.
Great passes were made out to mid fielders; Zara Broadley, Jenny Meyer, Katy Cole and Emma Seggens, who ran tirelessly to move the game towards our trio of attackers; Maisy Woolward, Judith Masters and Lily Smith. Unfortunately, Watton broke through early on and scored the only goal of the match. Magpies refused to let their heads drop however and continued to battle until the final whistle.
An outstanding performance was seen by Verity Green this week, who played in goal and deservedly was awarded player of the match. She worked tirelessly, saving goal after goal following countless short corners and a flick. A truly commendable performance.
A big thank you to our excellent umpires, Justin and Jess.
