Despite having a difficult season, the Women's 7ths continue to battle to move up in the league.
The game got off to a smooth start with the ball being passed easily between defence and midfield players. Interceptions from North Norfolk were effortlessly resolved by our defensive quad Annie Lancaster, Emma Tolhurst, Katie Devereux and Holly Archer making critical tackles and clearing the ball out of trouble. Verity Green in goal, made some impressive saves throughout the game, leading to her winning player of the match, however North Norfolk got a surprise early goal, taking them into the lead.
Despite this the game continued evenly, with midfielders, Katy Cole, Jenny Meyer, Judith Masters and Emma Seggens working hard to move the ball up to our attackers, covering endless ground. Andrea Glover scored the first goal for the women's 7ths. Despite the ball being trapped between the goalies feet, Andrea did not show defeat which saw the ball go over the line.
Confidence boosted, the forward line of Zara Broadley, Tilly Collins and Andrea Glover worked together tirelessly and tracked back to support when needed. Zara Broadly took no time before scoring the second goal with a direct shot straight through the goalies legs. Unfortunately, North Norfolk pushed hard and broke through, scoring an equalising goal just before half time.
After a motivating half time team talk the team went out refreshed and pushing for a win. The second half remained very even however and despite no goals conceded, no further goals were scored by magpies. The team continued to push to the last whistle and gave a commendable performance, demonstrating true team spirit. The game was made better by our two home umpires, Justin Williams and Freya Cooper.
Onwards to our next game!
