The opening 10 minutes proved difficult for Harleston Magpies, as Banbury came out with early attacking intent. Clearances and well-timed tackles were crucial in keeping Banbury at bay. Despite Banbury's pressure, the first quarter ended goalless, with the Magpies managing to hold firm.
As the game moved into the second quarter, Magpies began to find their rhythm. Their passing improved, and they started to control more possession. The breakthrough came in the 2nd quarter magpies gained a short corner which was worked by Nicolas Urquhart-Pearce in the midfield and the forwards slipped the ball onto a foot. Myles King who sent a thunderous drag flick into the right-side netting, giving Magpies a deserved 1-0 lead. Banbury had no immediate response, and the home team held their advantage going into the break.
The third quarter was a hard-fought affair, with both teams playing aggressively and competing fiercely for possession. The intensity led to a series of yellow cards, as players struggled to keep their composure amid the high-pressure situation. Banbury, while still dangerous, could not break down Magpies’ defence, which was marshalled expertly by William Donsworth and John Livings in Goal. Banbury came out in the 4th quarter determined to level the score. Their persistence paid off early when they found the back of the net to equalize at 1-1 with a mesmerizing backhand short. With the match finely poised, tensions were high as both teams pushed for the winning goal. However, Magpies were awarded a penalty stroke after a foul in the circle on Ben Emms, providing them with a golden opportunity to retake the lead. James Meakin stepped up to take the stroke, showing great composure and confidence as he flicked the ball down the middle to restore Magpies' lead at 2-1.
In the final minutes, Banbury earned two crucial short corners in an attempt to snatch a point, but once again, the Magpies' defence stood tall. Both of Banbury's efforts were expertly dealt with by the Magpies' defence and goalkeeper, ensuring that the score remained 2-1. As the final whistle blew, the Magpies celebrated a hard-earned victory.
