A bright sunny day greeted the teams as they lined up for the 7th Team’s first home game in Division 6 of the East Mens’ League.
There was definitely a buzz of excitement from both the players and spectators and after losing to Sudbury by 0-2 last week, a real determination to do better in front of the home crowd.
There was an excellent standard of play from both teams which made for a very exciting game. Both teams had a number of young talented players available this week and the pace of the game from start to finish was frantic, the passing skillful and the effort enormous.
The 7th Team was supported by David, Miles and Richard who kept a tight rein on tactics and positional play. As a result, the younger players were able to make some excellent attacks on the 6th’s goal and were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions. The defence was also on song with an excellent save by goalkeeper, Noah, some last minute tackles in the circle and at least two off the line clearances from the defence to keep the team in the game.
But it was not until the last ten minutes that forwards Ollie and Noah peppered the opponents keeper with a number of shots. Their persistence and determination paid off and led to the only goal of the game.
Well done the 7th Team. And, a big thank you to David, Richard, Miles and Rae for their help and support with the team; to Monica for some very tasty refreshments; to the Umpires for their part in making it such a good game; and to all the spectators for their claps and cheers .
