Mens 7s vs Bury St Edmunds M6 Dev

Men's 7s Match Report 12.10.24

A pre-match chat to some of the players gave the impression that they were in a confident mood and assured me that a win would be the inevitable outcome. And indeed, it wasn’t long into the match before David scored yet another goal from a penalty corner to give the 7th team the opening score.

However, Bury fought back and it wasn’t long before they had the Magpies defence in a complete muddle. Sticks were waved like magic wands but to no avail and sheer persistence from Bury gave them the equalizer. And this remained the score up to half time.

Magpie’s half-time team talk worked wonders and it was a more focused squad that took to the pitch to do battle in the second half. Some excellent passing and defending eventually led to a goal by Elliot which trickled over the line to give Magpies the lead. Richard followed up shortly after with a well-struck shot from the edge of the circle from a short corner.

With a 3-1 lead, the team began to play a more flowing game and were more willing to worry the Bury keeper with a variety of shots on goal. But it fell to Sam, who had worked hard throughout the match, to pound the ball hard into the back of the goal to make the final score 4-1 to Magpies.

Once more there were some excellent performances. Defenders James, Alistair and Luca were able to support the attack as well as making some timely tackles in defence whilst Noah was very unlucky not to keep a clean sheet. Harris seemed to pop up everywhere and his skills continue to improve with every game. Edward, Kit and Ollie ran tirelessly and all three were unlucky not to score.

Our thanks to James, David and Richard for their work on the field and to Rae for her admin off it. It would not work this well without them. Thank you to the umpires for making the game exciting to watch and to Karen and John for some delicious refreshments. Finally, to all the spectators who braved the winter weather and were rewarded with another exceptionally good game.
