A disappointing loss to IES 3 although, it shouldn’t be considered ‘disappointing’ as IES are sitting comfortably at the top of Division 5 and until the start of the season, the majority of Magpies’ players have never played at adult level. IES were certainly not in the mood to be rolled over and for the first time since the beginning of the season, Magpies 7 felt the full force of playing an adult team.
Nevertheless, the team put in a strong performance and kept a clean sheet throughout the first half. There were several opportunities to score from Noah, Ollie and Richard but IES defended well and denied all chances. From the start of the second half, IES took on a more determined approach realizing that there was always a possibility that Magpies had both the determination and ability to score.
With Noah in goal, the defence and the midfield worked hard throughout the match fending off some fast attacks and lots of very big hits with plenty of pace in them. But, as always, the team worked without fear and never gave up. Because of this, they managed to keep the score to two – nil which many of the spectators thought was a very commendable result.
Next week the team plays Colchester 4 at home. Colchester sits second in the league and although it would not be possible to catch them, a win here could help the team to move up the league to occupy fourth place.
Well done to all the boys for an excellent performance. Our thanks to James, David and Richard for their help and support against some bruising play. To Ian who came along to offer his support. To Rae who obviously enjoyed the company of the spectators and their worthy advice. And finally, to all the spectators who never fail to be there and to boost the team’s confidence.
And finally, finally we have a few words from Olly….oops sorry, I seem to have run out of space!
